Marathon Loppet - March 14th

Loppets are community events for both recreational and competitive athletes. This is a family-friendly event - it is both a race and a social event! Skiers and snowshoers of all ages and abilities are welcome.

Where : Marathon Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Club 

141 Peninsula Road, Marathon, Ontario.

Date : March 14th 2026

Time : 11:00am mass start

Participants should arrive on-site between 10:00-10:30am to receive their bib.

Distances :

2.6km (skis or snowshoes)

5km (snowshoes only)

10km (skis only)

21km (skis only)

42km (skis only)

Prizes will be awarded to first place finishers in each distance category.  Both techniques (classic and skate) and all genders will compete in the same distance category. Aid stations available and longer distances (21km, 42 km) can be completed as a skiathalon (switch equipment and techniques partway).

Prizes:

42 km: 43" Smart TV (donated by Marathon Canadian Tire)

21 km: $200 Joe Fresh Gift Card (donated by Rachelle and Gerard's Your Independent Grocer)

10km: $50 Home Hardware Gift Card (donated by Marathon Home Hardware)

5km snowshoe: $50 Home Hardware Gift Card (donated by Marathon Home Hardware)

All participants will receive a limited-edition event sticker and refreshments at MCCSSC chalet after finishing! Children will receive an event medal and choice of age-appropriate prize. Two door prizes (OtterBox travel mug, donated by Marathon TBayTel and Big Lake Cheer toque, donated by Big Lake Cheer) will be awarded by draw at 1pm.
